Welcome to Third Grade!

Welcome to third grade at Sheridan!  We are so thrilled to be your child's teachers, and we know this will be an awesome year!  For your child's journey to be successful, it is essential for us to understand that each child is a unique individual with special qualities and needs.  With the support of students and families, we will create a classroom environment that will recognize and respect individuality. To support each student's learning, we will create classrooms that offers a variety of meaningful teaching styles so that each child will have the opportunity to succeed. Our Students will grow and learn a lot this year! We invite you to play an active role in your child's education by talking with your child each day about their learning, reading together every night, and communicating with us.

We want there to be open communication between us.   If at anytime you have a question, we will be happy to talk with you.  Either, write us a note, give us a call, or email us and we will try to respond as soon as possible. Each day your child will bring home his/her Homework Folder.  The homework folder will contain his/her work for the day, notes, and homework. Please check your child's backpack daily for important letters and notes. This can be a hard habit to get started, but well worth it! Thanks in advance!!

Homework: Students will have reading homework every night and paper math homework on Tuesday and Thursday. Students will also have nightly math Zearn homework online. This is a quick check for understanding.  We will practice this in the classroom so students will understand what to do. Homework should take between 30-40 minutes a night. If it is taking longer than that please let us know.

Snack: We will have a daily snack time in the afternoon. Students will bring snack for themselves only. Please send nutritional foods, such as fruit, cheese, crackers, pretzels, yogurt, etc. PLEASE DO NOT send in candy, sweets, sandwiches, lunchables, etc. for snack time. The students will have 5 minutes for snack so it needs to be something they can eat quickly.  Also, we only allow water in the classroom. Your child will be able to keep their own water bottle in the classroom.

Birthday Treats: Students can bring in birthday treats to have during snack. Again healthy snacks are encouraged. Such as muffins, trail mix, fruit, yogurt, fruit snacks, cheese and crackers, etc. We also ask that you let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly. We do have several food allergies this year so please keep that in mind when planning to bring in treats.

Volunteers:  Volunteers are much needed and a welcomed part of the classroom. There will be a sign up sheet with dates and times for volunteering on Orientation Night. We also need a class PTO representative to attend monthly PTO meetings. If you are interested in volunteering in that way, please let us know. We really look forward to working with you! This partnership is SO important to make our classroom successful. If at any time you have some extra time to come in and help, we would greatly appreciate it!

Lastly, Read! Read! Read!  Read with your child as much as possible.  This special time is critical to successful literacy development.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website!
