The USD 475 Information Technology Department is dedicated to providing the information, communication, technology, and media literacy it takes to create a 21st Century Learner, as defined by the Kansas State Department of Education. We not only meet, but look to exceed those standards.
All of our schools are wireless providing instant access to students wherever they may be in their school via a notebook or tablet. If you walk into a USD 475 classroom you will see a SMART Board, an interactive whiteboard system that allows teachers to use digital ink instead of chalk. This creates a more dynamic experience for the students and our teachers. Each teacher has his or her own notebook computer and website tools to communicate and collaborate with other teachers, as well as with students, parents and guardians. Teachers host video conferences with other schools, universities, organizations, and authors bringing the world to our students’ fingertips. EDTech Magazine published an article about the work we have started in transitioning from an all-print to all digital (or digital heavy) curriculum. Our 10th grade biology students are now using an interactive digital textbook that allows them to just not read but interact with the material they are studying, giving them more options to learn about a particular topic.
Our online student information system allows students, parents and guardians to access grades, attendance records, food purchases, financial information as well as communicate with the teacher.
USD 475 enjoys a successful partnership with Fort Riley. High school graduation is a hallmark event for students and parents. Those serving in distant theaters can hear and see their students graduate and also participate in a one-on-one teleconference with their child, through facilities supplied by Fort Riley and USD 475.The Information Technology Department continues to grow as we work towards our mission to ensure our students and staff lead and learn through the use of innovative technologies to be successful in tomorrow’s world.
